Through Borouge, our joint venture with Borealis, we have extended our community contributions in the other parts of the world where we operate. ‘Water for the World’ is a program that focuses on improving supply and access to clean water and promoting sustainable practices to preserve water resources. Borouge is also a strategic partner in the ‘Project Stop’ initiative that was co-founded with our partner Borealis and SYSTEMIQ. The objective of this initiative is to create low cost, circular waste management systems in Indonesia to eliminate the leakage of plastics into the environment. The initiative has provided benefits to the local communities by creating new jobs and employing 164 people to support the waste recycling system.
ADNOC is a founding partner of the REACH campaign, a first of its kind fundraising initiative to end river blindness. The campaign takes an innovative approach to raising money to end the disease, while also educating the public about river blindness through strategic and targeted advocacy efforts. Proceeds from the campaign go to the Reaching the Last Mile Fund (RLMF), a 10-year, $100 million USD initiative launched in 2017 by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and President of the UAE, and supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Department for International Development (DFID) and The ELMA Philanthropies. We are committed to leveraging our platforms to promote the campaign in order to help millions of people affected by the disease. In 2020, we successfully raised AED 300,000, with the help of our customers through our ADNOC Distribution retail fuel service stations.
